Katia Mifsud

University of Malta

Katia Mifsud holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of  Malta, where she also studied at Bath Spa University. She completed her Masters in Gerontology and Geriatrics at the University of Malta and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Family Psychotherapy.She is currently conducting her doctoral research, which focuses on therapeutic cognitive rehabilitation to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their families.

Her work experience includes meaningful activity projects at Karen Grech Rehabilitation Hospital and Active Ageing Malta sessions with people who have dementia. Katia has been involved in a project to train staff in various long-term care facilities working with people with dementia. She has also done valuable work in the geriatric units of the Department of Clinical Psychology at Mater Dei State Hospital in Malta.Katia contributed to the conference "Gerontological Geriatric and Dementia Care in Malta & Gozo: Present and Future Challenges" - United Nations Conference 2018, held in Malta. Her contribution offered an important perspective on alternative approaches to dementia care.

She also worked as an early career researcher in Germany and Switzerland as part of a Cotutelle program organized by the European Commission. Katia participated in the TRANS-SENIOR program and her research interests also include optimizing transitional care in the context of accidental falls of nursing home residents.
